Waiter Robot

Left hand side view of robot
Overview
Covid posed a serious threat to restaurant businesses. To mitigate this threat -- and that of the virus -- we devised a robot to function in place of a server. The robot takes orders, informs the chef, and delivers food. It functions via an independent, dual motor, 2 wheel drive system and has infrared line following.
Problem
U.S. restaurants lost $120 million in the pandemic. Is there a way to keep restaurants open and limit the spread of covid?
Design Constraints
Must be built from readily available parts including most arduino kit accessories. Manufacturing capabilities include 3D printing and laser cutting
Challenges
Having the robot make smooth turns and corners.
Results
The robot was able to perform its desired function of carrying food and following a pretetermined path, but the lack of a control system for the line following program resulted in jerky movements that need to be refined.
